MONDAY FINALS REVIEW [15/06/2010]
Season One Finals Review
This season Monday night competition saw some great games of touch played and some exciting new touch talents discovered. The competition has provided some very close and exciting results and a heap of competitive touch footy action. On June 7th our Monday competition Grand Finals were played and we saw some high scoring and close games as teams battled it out to become premiers of their respective divisions.
Men’s “A” division has been a close & highly competitive competition all season with Battler’s, MOB 2, Your Mates, Brada’s, Trinats and Vitamen competing. Trinats and Vitamen bowed out of the race finishing outside the final four but played in a social to finish off their season with Trinats winning ( 7 – 3). The semi finals secured wins for Your Mates over a depleted Mob 2 side (9 – 5) and Battlers won against the very improved and committed Brada’s team. The Boys from Brad’s almost caused an upset and narrowly lost by 2 (10 – 8). That left Your Mates and Battlers to play out the final in what proved to be a game of halves. Your Mates played well in the first half and kept the strong Battlers team honest and both teams were well and truly in the race. The second half was a more one side affair with Battlers showing they have a strong combination of skill, fitness and speed and ran away with the game with a 7 – 1 win. Battler’s player (strip # 2) was exceptional and led his team to a well deserved victory.
The entertaining Men’s B Division has seen an improved Rhino’s team playing some good touch and the well seasoned Totaled team competing in a very fun and friendly division. The final was a battle of the ages with the MOB (Mudgeeraba Old Boys) lining up against the young and skilled Champs team. In a close and well spirited game the two teams were neck and neck at the half time break & saw the Champs a try in front. Both teams displayed two different brands of touch football, the Champs used cut out passes & inside balls & ran great lines while the MOB team combined set plays, strong defense with an impressive rucking pattern as their platform. The final score line reflected the close nature of the game with the MOB team winning 8 – 5. Ammon from the MOB team was named as MVP; he also took out the Fast Touch MVP player of the comp for Monday competition.
Mixed “A” division has seen a well drilled Roosters team play with consistency all comp and finished minor premiers with Croc’s & O’Neill’s Transport hot on their heels. In semi finals Roosters knocked out Crusaders and O’Neill’s beat the Crocs in a very close and exciting game (3-2). Players of distinction in that game were Cameron Court (O’Neill’s) and Louise Hunt (Crocs). Roosters and O’Neill’s lined up in the final and the Roosters went out hard and fast and secured a solid half time lead, Roosters Jess White and Cassie Dobell performed strongly and the O’Neill’s team was making a lot of mistakes with poor ball control. The second half seen a determined O’Neill’s outfit minamise their mistakes and start to score points and it looked like an upset was on the cards as they outscored the Roosters but the determine Roosters hung with a great first half performance hung on and ran out winners 7 – 3. The duty referee named player 6 for the Roosters as MVP.
Mixed B grade competition had some new team’s line up this season and the return of some old favorites. Summersets played some great touch and many thought they would be in the finals but narrowly missed out after losing to Mud runners (5-2) in the semi final. Enclosure’s improvement was evident but they could not overcome new team entry and a very solid Holy Sisters and went down (7 -2) in the semi. That left Mud runners and Holy Sisters to fight out the final in what was expected to be a close and exciting game. Expectations were met as the two teams slugged it out and both teams played some very good touch. The difference between the teams proved to be a high Mud runner’s error rate that went down 5-3 in a close and very exciting game of touch footy. The MVP was player 11 from the Holy Sisters team.
Well done to all the players who made finals, FTF management would like to thank our referees and club officials for conducting a successful and entertaining finals series. We look forward to seeing you all back next comp.
